Historical Review of Stroboscopic Hallucinations, Lead Authorship

I recently wrote a paper on the history and science of visual hallucinations induced by stroboscopic light, which will shortly be published in the Neuroscience of Consciousness.

The paper will appear in Neuroscience of Consciousness, and you can read the preprint now at: https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/ncqaw_v1

Researchers have known for over 200 years that stroboscopic light can induce vivid visual hallucinations of colour and geometric formations, but the phenomena remains little understood. Although researchers have made progress over the past century in modeling the neural basis of these experiences, it’s only in the past decade that neurophenomenological approaches have been applied to hallucinations induced by strobe lights. Their findings suggest that scientific models of visual hallucinations may be overly simplistic, raising new questions for hallucination research both within and beyond the context of stroboscopic light.
